Let Zero heads into next phase

The Let Zero service has been extended and will continue its groundbreaking work in transforming the private rented sector through energy-efficient home improvements. The next phase of Let Zero will expand its impact, reaching more landlords and tenants with tailored support that makes homes warmer and more energy efficient. The success of the pilot phase will now lead in to establishing Let Zero as a sustainable, long-term, commercial service.

Let Zero started as an 18-month innovation project, funded by Innovate UK, and led by South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA), demonstrating the value of engaging the private-rented sector in South Yorkshire to make homes more comfortable, affordable to heat, and environmentally friendly. Through this initial phase of the project, Let Zero has shown the benefits of using a “one stop shop” approach, in which every stage of the retrofit process is available as part of one convenient and expert service. We support landlords and tenants through every step of the retrofit journey – from initial interest, to developing bespoke plans for each property, guiding all parties through the installation process, and ensuring everything is as it should be upon completion.

Since the service has been running, Let Zero has:

– Held 40 energy efficiency cafes

– Supported 62 landlords

– Conducted basic assessments for 238 properties

– Carried out in-depth retrofit assessments for 36 properties

– 16 energy efficient measures installed including solar PV, internal and external wall insulation and air source heat pumps.

On top of this, the Let Zero team has built a comprehensive service that is ready to be rolled out at a wider scale.

The next phase of the project will build on this success, creating a service that continues to engage and add value to the sector, and use Let Zero’s expertise in retrofit to help more landlords and tenants make energy efficient improvements to their homes.
